Newly Launched Independent Label Decal Makes First Acquisition

DECAL, a full-service home entertainment distributor, is acquiring North American rights to Jaco Bouwer’s Gaia from XYZ Films, which is set to debut in the Midnight section of the upcoming virtual SXSW later this month.

The independent label from NEON and Bleecker Street will release the film theatrically this Summer.  Directed by Bouwer and written by Tertius Kapp, the South African horror-thriller stars Monique Rockman, Carel Nel, Anthony Oseyemi and Alex Van Dyk. Bouwer, Kapp and Jorrie van der Walt are producers.

Gaia follows a park ranger on a surveillance mission in a primordial forest who encounters two survivalists living a post-apocalyptic lifestyle. The boy and his philosophical father seem to have their own religion and a mysterious relationship to nature.

Ayo Kepher-Maat negotiated the deal for DECAL along with Nate Bolotin from XYZ Films on behalf of filmmakers.  XYZ are handling worldwide rights outside of South Africa.  Jaco Bouwer previously directed the South African TV Series “4 Mure” and TV Movies Rage and Somerkersfees.


Saban Films Acquires "Long Story Short"

The newly launched independent label DECAL handles distribution deals on the home entertainment rights to both NEON and Bleecker Street’s curated slate of high-profile, thought-provoking films. DECAL’s first release was Bleecker Street’s Supernova, starring Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci.  

The venture is also in market seeking third-party content and will be acquiring additional third-party content as part of their growth and expansion.  DECAL is offering an ideal environment and option for the independent’s best-in-class digital distribution by optimizing the transactional window with its robust slate of films and strategic partnerships. 


AARP The Magazine Announces the Winners of the Annual Movies for Grownups® Awards

DECAL titles include The World to Come, starring Katherine Waterston, Vanessa Kirby, Christopher Abbott, and Casey Affleck, which released theatrically on February 12th by Bleecker Street, and Together Together, starring Ed Helms and Patti Harrison, which will be released theatrically by Bleecker Street on April 23rd, with VOD and EST to follow on May 11th.  

Additional films will include NEON’s Spencer, starring Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana, the Sundance award-winning film, FLEE, and Jamila Wignot’s Ailey, an immersive portrait of dance pioneer, Alvin Ailey.
