AFI FEST 2016 Presented By Audi Announces Festival Dates and Call For Entries

AFI FEST 2016 presented by Audihas officially announced important dates for the annual film festival presented by the American Film Institute, which brings Hollywood icons, emerging artists and audiences together to experience global cinema in the movie capital of the world.

The film festival is the only one of its stature that is free to the public. The 30th edition of AFI FEST will take place in Hollywood, California fromNovember 10–17, 2016.

Starting Tuesday, March 1, AFI FEST will begin accepting submissions from filmmakers for documentary, experimental, feature, narrative and short films at AFI.com/AFIFEST or through Withoutabox.com. The festival’s early submission deadline for both short films (under 30 minutes) and feature films isFriday, April 1.

The official submission deadline is Friday, May 6 and the final submission deadline is Friday, July 15. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences recognizes AFI FEST as a qualifying festival for the Live Action and Animated Short Film categories for the annual Academy Awards®.

AFI FEST 2015 hosted 130 films (77 features, 53 shorts) representing 45 countries, including the world premiere of Oscar®winner THE BIG SHORT (DIR Adam McKay). A special dual Tribute honored stars Charlotte Rampling and Tom Courtenay before a Special Screening of 45 YEARS (DIR Andrew Haigh).

Conversations took place with director Ridley Scott (THE MARTIAN); actor Benicio Del Toro (SICARIO); director Sarah Gavron and writer Abi Morgan (SUFFRAGETTE); actor Michael Caine and director Paolo Sorrentino (YOUTH); and director Scott Cooper and star Johnny Depp (BLACK MASS).

Guests and talent at the festival included Christian Bale, Antonio Banderas, Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Todd Haynes, Rooney Mara, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Moore, Angelina Jolie Pitt, Brad Pitt, Saoirse Ronan, Jason Segel, Sarah Silverman, Will Smith, Sylvester Stallone, Lily Tomlin and Olivia Wilde.
