Wendy James
Indigent Blues / Bad Intentions and a Bit of Cruelty
Pledge Music
15 July 2016

“Wendy James' new album ‘The Price Of The Ticket’ is brave and tender, artful and wild, where courage and the dream of love give promise. A wild, moving, shocking, hilarious, raging, exhilarating, giant of an album.

A dazzling performance that listeners will delight in, it is intelligent, witty, irresistibly relentless and forthright”

Wendy James Begins Her UK Tour at London's Brooklyn Bowl on Thursday 19th May

Originally from London, now a resident of NYC, Wendy James wrote her latest album ’The Price Of The Ticket’ in its entirety, with the exception of two inspired cover choices, 'It's Alright Ma' by Bob Dylan and 'You're So Great' by Fred 'Sonic' Smith. Recorded in her adopted city, 'The Price of the Ticket' is available on vinyl, CD and via digital download. The record reached No.13 in the Official UK Indie album chart and No.15 in the Official UK Vinyl album chart. It is presented with arresting and beautiful artwork by Kym Ellery and Roze Hooij.

From the album comes a double A side single that showcases Wendy's Garage Rock and Roll credentials perfectly. 'Indigent Blues' is an infectiously upbeat song that Wendy wrote to evoke English 60s Pop. She says "I wanted to create a carefree, suburban London sound, a distinctly English feel, inspired by the movie Georgy Girl and it’s theme tune by The Seekers. There was a period in the late fifties to sixties, where theatre, music, playwriting, and politics, all came together. There was a great sense of optimism but also naivety in young English people. I’m not talking about the hipsters on Carnaby Street but slightly more removed, where they were just wearing their mini skirts for the first time. A tremendous sense of optimism."

'Bad Intentions and a Bit of Cruelty' is bursting with New Wave energy, attitude and raw Rock and Roll. The video, filmed in Paris sees Wendy walking through the city as dawn breaks, champagne bottle in hand, the very embodiment of Art Rock.

Wendy James has spent her entire adult life in the public eye, her musical evolution recorded in a huge body of work, both through her first band Transvision Vamp and as a solo artist. An icon born of the late eighties and early nineties pop punk scene, Wendy's talent, style and attitude led Miley Cyrus to proclaim that Wendy was her original pin-up; whilst Wendy's principles as an uncompromising artist, songwriter and musician have led to an alignment with her own musical inspiration Patti Smith. Indeed this album sees her working with Lenny Kaye of The Patti Smith Group together with Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols and James Sclavunos of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The album's cover versions feature Iggy & The Stooges' James Williamson on guitar/bass and Steve Mackay on Baritone Sax.

Wendy James has achieved what few can or have: longevity and a forward motion trajectory in New Wave Garage Rock.

"If Transvision Vamp were high energy, teen fun punk, three decades later, James’ album is a much more grown up affair. Complex and confident, James’ vocals are simultaneously spiky and soft, while her band provides a dark New York underbelly of sound."
The Scotsman

"The Price of the Ticket carries a slight air of autobiography, containing songs that feel reflective, perhaps even confessional."

"James has defied the usual career arc and is launching a fully-fledged comeback, giving funny, candid interviews and releasing a rather good new album, The Price of the Ticket. It has an A-list backing band of Lenny Kaye (Patti Smith) and one-time Stooge James Williamson on guitars, ex-Pistol Glen Matlock on bass and Jim Sclavunos (Nick Cave) on drums, and the songs are quirky, feisty and full of far more character than anything James recorded in her Saturday morning TV days."

Niamh Crowther
I'll Be
20 May 2016

Lead Track: I'll Be

Following the runaway success of 'Little by Little', Niamh Crowther, releases her new single 'I’ll Be' taken from her eponymous EP, on May 20th.

Niamh came to prominence aged sixteen, when she beat over 15,000 other young people to claim the prestigious Youth Music Awards. The accompanying rave reviews and talk about town earned her 'one to watch' accolades from the media. A succession of well received singles further enhanced her reputation. Supported by an extensive radio tour the last single 'Little by Little' was one of the most played independent Irish tracks played across Irish radio last summer. That success continued into the autumn as the song made its way to the US and Europe, getting support countless stations including Janice Long on BBC Radio 2. A success made even more remarkable given Niamh is combining her burgeoning music career whilst studying full time in Dublin.

On the live front Niamh has won new fans whilst supporting PictureHouse, Blink, Mundy and appearing at events and festivals like LeCheile, St Patrick’s Festival and A Night for Pieta House in the Olympia Theatre. Then there was the time she was invited to sing onstage with Richie Sambora on her 18th birthday.

The new radio edit of 'I’ll Be' was recorded in Westland Studio in Dublin with engineer Colm Finnegan produced by Dermot Lambert (Blink) And mixed by Tim Martin. It comes from Niamh’s eponymous EP which features 'Little by Little', 'Origins' and new track 'Painkillers'.

"She has pop sensibilities… a little bit of adventure in there as well. Plenty awaits”

Ilana J
Made 4 U
29 July 2016

Originally from the UK, up and coming singer-songwriter Ilana J is taking the music scene by storm with her relentless passion for songwriting and a natural musical talent to match. An accomplished pianist and guitarist, Ilana has a writing style which is very much her own and the rate at which she is writing songs and laying down tracks is impressive for a relatively newcomer to the music scene.

Ilana J excelled in classical piano at a young age, but her dream of a future in the music industry was shelved for a more traditional education and career path; that is until a long, hot summer a few years ago in Maine, when she found the inspiration she needed to open her heart again to music.

Ilana dived in with intensive musical training on both the guitar and the piano, and almost immediately began writing songs, as if the lyrics and music had just been waiting to be heard. After eighteen months of hard work, supported every step of the way by her friends and family, a chance meeting in 2013 with Mark Alexander, ex-keyboard player with rock band Meat Loaf, gave her the final push she needed to follow her dream - it was time to start recording her songs.

Ilana's debut EP ‘Free Falling from the Ground Up' was released in 2015 with popular approval from music fans and industry professionals alike. New single 'Made 4 U' follows the success of her last single release 'Not Alone'  which came out in February, inviting us to let go of the illusion of isolation and celebrate a world of unity through diversity.

"..If you enjoy your incredibly upbeat pop-music, then Ilana J might be a person to keep your eyes on over the next few years.. she’s certainly up and coming.."
Zoe Anderson, GIGsoup

“..Pop visionary Ilana J's new EP 'Free Falling From The Ground Up' sees her belting out both songs of innocence and experience, touching on the brighter side of reality and reassuring the listener that no matter what – it gets better.."
Matt Bacon, WTF Magazine

“..Free Falling From The Ground Up: a noble debut effort from Ilana J.." Amy Jones, Noise Cannon “..Ilana J's voice is powerful and pleasant and the melody flows effortlessly from her mouth..”
William Lienard, Peek-a-boo Magazine

Tom Jarvis
Wonder of Time / Ordinary Lie

Tom Jarvis first came to nationwide attention in 2013 through the iTunes success of his debut EP release 'Make Your Own Luck', quickly followed up by a second EP and single, both of which received huge support from BBC Introducing.

With this solid foundation behind him, 2014 saw Tom embark on his first UK tour playing twenty-six universities across the UK, as well as appearing alongside a number of chart topping acts such as Scouting for Girls, Example, John Newman, Stu Larsen and John Murry.

In 2015 Tom continued making waves after landing support slots with Nina Nesbitt and Howie Day. He performed live at Jamie Olivers 'Big Feastival' and was also featured by ITV's Lorraine Kelly Show, and several UK national newspapers. Tom recently finished recording his new double A side release 'Wonder of Time / Ordinary Lie'  with the prestigious team at Voltaire Road Studios in London. Catch Fire
5 August 2016

HICARI, Meaning ‘Light’ in Japanese, are a multicultural 5-piece pop band based in Liverpool who are influenced by the synth-pop of artists such as CHRVCHES; The 1975; and St. Lucia, whilst using everything 80’s as the foundation for their sound.

The band's debut release 'Catch Fire' showcases the band's trademark uplifting melodies, synth-hooks and driving beats.

“With a distinctive 80’s feel to their persona, the quintet blend together euphoric choruses with a net of synths, with a good dose of addictive drum hooks that drill into you instantly”

Craig MacDonald, Getintothis

“A sound made up of strong synth-pop elements backing a strong voice and cinematic momentum. Recently awarded one of Liverpool’s Top 20 artists for 2016-17, they are getting ready to play the Liverpool International Music Festival (LIMF) Summer Jam in July. This means supporting great acts such as Lianne La Havas, The Wombats and more.”

Severine Baron, 24ourmusic

“Put your dancing shoes on, make yourself a little vulnerable and give ‘Consumed’ by HICARI a listen. Then patiently wait with me for more music by this insanely talented group of friends”

Nick Howland, Playlistplay

We love dual vocals especially when used effectively as HICARI have perfected how to do. On arrival of the chorus we’re hooked with this track as the repetitive backline gets underneath the skin as we find ourselves bopping along to the infectious beat.

Essentially Pop

“Bright, glistening pop hooks demonstrate an emphatic love that HICARI clearly have for music”
Velvet Independent
