HL London: February 2UBE Travels Inside Liverpool's Music Scene

For the last few weeks we've devoted Friday to sending you music from artists who'll be playing at Liverpool's new music showcase The 2Ube and this week we're continuing with the current single from Frances.  'A Million Lines' is taken from her latest EP 'Grow'; it's deceptively simple, emotive record from an artist that the industry is keeping a very close eye on.

Taking inspiration from its iconic eighties namesake, the Channel Four Television programme, The Tube, Liverpool based music showcase The 2Ube offers an unrivalled opportunity to see discover the most exciting emerging artists active on the north west's vibrant music scene right now.

Each week we'll introduce you to some of the acts you can look forward to seeing at the weekly Lipa cafe events as well as The 2Ube Extra Festival which happens in April:

Frances - A Million Lines
Frances writes and co-produces her own music and is influenced by artists ranging from Aqualung and Sia to Alanis Morisette and Carole King. Her unique, ethereal tones, keen ear for an infectious melody, emotive piano playing and honest lyrics have already caught the attention of Xfm, Noisey and MTV. 'A Million Lines' is her current single and follows the success of 'Fire May Save You' a track released on French label Kitsune which has so far attracted over 40,000 plays on Soundcloud.

Frances says “I wrote 'A Million Lines' around a year and a half ago at a time when I was feeling particularly young and naive to the fact that the world around me is so huge and I’ve seen so little of it, and also the pressures of being young, in love and chasing adventure all at the same time. I started the writing process with the melody and lyrics of the chorus (‘a million lines for a billion hearts’), and from there I built the piano part and the verses. I wanted there to be a big release at the end to let off some steam as the rest of the song I feel has an undercurrent of tension… but maybe that’s just me!”

ABOUT THE 2UBE:

“There is still a shortage of live music on our terrestrial screens so something like The 2Ube live from LIPA is a fabulous idea, not only does it give the students real industry skills in producing live Television but also offers a platform for emerging music to get seen by a wider audience."
Dave Monks, BBC Radio Merseyside

Based in LIPA Cafe, Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts, Mount Street, Liverpool, The 2Ube's weekly showcase takes place each Friday from 5-7pm. The event features a diverse range of bands from across the north west.

Keith Mullin of Liverpool band The Farm is a music lecturer at Liverpool Institute for the Performing Arts and the driving force behing The 2Ube. He describes the event as "a bastion of cultural diversity, a great breeding ground for new acts. In many ways it adopts a John Peel approach to music, not specialist or genre specific, in that you never know what you’re going to get."

On March 20th, the show will be live streamed on a designated YouTube channel, attracting viewers from all over the world as we gear up for the main event, the annual 2Ube Extra Festival which is set to attract viewers to its live stream from all over the world.

This year The 2Ube Extra Festival begins on April 15th and runs untilApril 23rd, featuring four bands each night, together with exclusive interviews and performances with some of the most respected figures in the music industry.
