Proverb: A Story of the Second Civil War, a novel by Brian McCracken, the first volume of a trilogy,  is the story of family, loyalty to country, changing times and the damage, devastation and alienation polarized thinking produces.

Contemporary America has been torn apart, now 2025, Civil War, with two distinctive sides, comprised of Republicans and Democrats, fight on the land freedom once knew for dominance.

Each entity has well advanced and developed military. Special Forces and Operations, with the most advanced technology, as well as battalions of fighters ready, devoted to their cause.

McCracken introduces the human element, bringing the national division of parties once built on rhetoric and bullying, to what seems like a natural decent stemming from deep seeded hatred and difference of opinions.

The story revolves around two soldiers, Samir Nashwari, a high school student living in Wilmington, N.C. and Olivia “Olly” Vasquez who is helping her mother raise her two younger brother in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Five years later, as both their lives have been overturn by the dramatic political upheaval in the zunited States that results in a new civil war both have enlisted and have excelled now Special Operations Military Leaders.

Samir fights for the Republicans as a Mako, a Navy SEAL-like amphibious commando, Olly fights for the democrats as a Phantom, a technologically invisible sniper. Their fates are intertwined when it is discovered the founding documents of the Old United States have been stolen from the democratic capital, which remained Washington, D.C.

As the two heroes separately strive to unravel the mystery they interact with their devoted teams to uncover a conspiracy involving not just American but the entire world as they know it.

Proverb: A Story of the Second Civil War, combines history, the love of Politics and the vision of a futuristic America where one can see what polarized party beliefs without the unity of a common American vision does.

McCracken, a noted Political scholar, has taken elements that he sees as the most damaging and destructive and built a trilogy upon it.

Brain McCracken is a South Carolina native and graduate of Wofford College with a BA in Government and Economics and a minor in religion. He was also a Rhodes scholarship and Fulbright finalist. He is currently pursuing a dual degree in International and Comparative lit at Duke University. Proverb: A Story of the Second Civil War is his debut novel and the first in a trilogy.
