World News: Political Fratricidal Strife in Paris

The duel announced between Cédric Villani and Benjamin Griveaux both candidates for mayor of Paris and from LREM poses a dilemma to President Macron. Unless the executive lets the two suitors intentionally tear apart.

At the end of this summer, La République en Marche (LREM) is in turmoil! Proof of this is the almost certain announcement of the candidacy (programmed except accident September 4, symbolic date if it is the day of the proclamation of the Third Republic in 1870 by Léon Gambetta) by Cédric Villani , MP for Paris, internationally recognized mathematician (winner of the Fields Medal) in the municipal elections of March 2020 and this face, among others, Benjamin Griveaux, spokesman of the Government and close to Emmanuel Macron.

Anne Hidalgo, outgoing mayor of the capital did not ask so much because despite the fact that Benjamin Griveaux is mistreated in the polls (25% of votes) the presence of a single candidate LREM would still seriously complicated his potential reelection.

But with two candidates with different ambitions, the chief magistrate of the capital sees his horizon clear. The division can only be profitable for him.

Current Affairs and Adoubement

However, all have understood, behind the fratricidal struggle between Cédric Villani and Benjamin Griveaux, shadows the shadow of the President of the Republic. This one after having shone during the G7 in Biarritz last August, is confronted with the management of current affairs in its own majority because it will be necessary at one time or another to slice, to soften the one who will go to the fire.

World News: The Impossible Equation in the Search for Enough

Exercise is not complicated in itself but oh so risky. Supporting Benjamin Griveaux (who is waiting for a gesture from Emmanuel Macron in his favor!) Unloved polls, ambitions declared and supposed as beyond the City of Paris, is to trust a candidate announced as a loser with the resulting political consequences: presidential discredit, inappropriate interference, loss of influence ... Certainly.

A Different Kind of Force – Policing Mental Illness

But in case of victory, the presidential image is revived. To support Cédric Villani (who does not expect anything from the executive or so little!) Is to break a fragile majority that is still seeking an ideological backbone and where co-habitate impatient troublemakers ready to fight in the urns, all driven by a sometimes excessive ego.

But if the mathematician had to prevail, the image of the president and the LREM would certainly be increased again but the tenant of the Elysee would then have little control over the new elected so it has he asserts his independence of mind, denouncing the party's logic of apparatus.

Threat and Tear

Another option available to Emmanuel Macron, let the two ambitious to tear at the risk of seeing Anne Hidalgo win. The option is not stupid because it would break, for a time in any case, the inclinations of one or the other, evading any presidential responsibility. And who understands politics knows that a hint is always a threat. Excluding Cedric Villani from the ranks of LREM, as the idea can circulate, is also not a wise hypothesis because it would tarnish the image of the presidential movement by giving it an air of political elephant little open to change, would give the feeling of to protect Benjamin Griveaux in an artificial way to ultimately weaken more than anything else because unable to gather on its only name or project while clumsily hiding the inadequacies of speech.

Op/Ed: Russia, Racists, and Ridiculousness

And if on the eve of an election, uncertainty prevails, only one thing seems certain today is the nightmare that live Benjamin Griveaux and Cédric Villani to the President of the Republic.

It's back to school.
